Just an idea that’s been in drafts for a while and thought I would use for Teresa’s Fantasy Prompt that I may or may not turn into a novel one day. Enjoy!
He pulled on the reigns and the horse slowed down as he veered it off the road. They stopped underneath an oak tree and he swung off of the saddle. He untied a sack off of the back of the horse and opened it. The horse began drinking from a big puddle. He reached into his sack and pulled out a loaf of bread. Still warm, he thought, ripping off a hunk of the bread, then put the rest back in the sack. With all the storms lately, he did not know how long it would take him to reach his destination. Might as well ration his scarce supplies to make sure it lasted – he didn’t have much money left and he had a long way to go to deliver the encoded message to that priest.
His teeth sank into the crust. He closed his eyes as the warmth spread throughout his body. He wanted to take his time, to savour it, but he needed to hurry. He scoffed the rest and stood up. He went over to the horse, took a firm hold of the reigns and the mane, and with his other hand grasped the cantle, and then placed his left foot in the stirrup, and swung up and onto the horse. “Yay!”
