Behind Our Masks

This is a short story that is going to be written in diary form and will be a continuation of the previous one. On with the story!

October 31

Oh, it’s fate that today is Halloween, the day we all prance around in masks, pretending to be ghosts, fairies, zombies, and the works.

Because today I’ve had enough.

Enough of hiding behind the mask. Behind the walls I’ve built. I’ve pretended for years, too afraid to let people in. Well, what was meant to protect me is now a cage, from which I can’t break free.

Even if I could, I wouldn’t know how.

I manage to fool everyone else – even me. I hide this storm inside. I want to show the real me.

But how can I do that when I don’t even know who the real me is?

Avery.
